人生最佳美的東西，都是從苦難中得來的。麥子必須磨碎，纔能做成麵包。香料必須經火，纔能發出濃郁的香氣。泥土必須耕鬆，纔能適於下種。照樣，一個破碎的心，才會得到神的喜悅。人生最甜蜜的歡樂，都是憂傷的果子。我們必須親身經歷很多艱難，然後纔會去安慰別人。

如果你渴望作一個安慰使者，如果你願意有憐恤的恩賜，如果你想從你身上流出新鮮的安慰語來扶持受試煉的弟兄姊妹，如果你要在日常過著陽光的生活不叫別人感到你的酸辣，你必須甘心樂意地付一筆昂貴的教育費－你必須像主那樣受苦。

THE best things of life come out of wounding. Wheat is crushed before it becomes bread. Incense must be cast upon the fire before its odors are set free. The ground must be broken with the sharp plough before it is ready to receive the seed. It is the broken heart that pleases God. The sweetest joys in life are the fruits of sorrow. Human nature seems to need suffering to fit it for being a blessing to the world.

If you aspire to be a son of consolation; if you would partake of the priestly gift of sympathy; if you would pour something beyond commonplace consolation into a tempted heart; if you would pass through the intercourse of daily life with the delicate tact that never inflicts pain; you must be content to pay the price of a costly education-like Him, you must suffer. ---F.
